8 Alternative Birthday Cake Ideas

I've got one of those weirdo kids that hates cake... it's the icing apparently. Her birthday will be in August and so naturally she started planning her party back in April. The first request? NO CAKE!

In our search to find a crowd pleasing alternative, she has approved the following 8 options. Take a look below if you're on the hunt for something a little quirky + memorable for your little one too (or if you're just curious what a 6 year old finds 'cool').

1. POPCORN CAKE

Popcorn Cake is a super easy no bake dessert that’s great for parties! It has the perfect balance of salty and sweet – with popcorn, pretzels and marshmallows mixed with your favourite candy. And yes, it's totally sliceable! Get the recipe HERE (credit: Cookies & Cups).

2. WATERMELON CAKE

Fruity and festive raw cake, made with cylinders or watermelon and decorated with seasonal fruit and berries. This would be so refreshing during a summer party at a park, by the pool or the beach! Naturally sweet and delicious. Find the recipe HERE (credit: Not Without Salt)

3. FUNFETTI PANCAKE STACK

A towering stack of pancakes, sprinkles and sweet toppings. This would also be a great breakfast to surprise your little one with on their special morning. Find the recipe HERE (credit: Inspired by Charm)

4. DONUT WALL

If you're a local Hamiltonian you'll surely know all about he deliciousness that is Mamas Donuts - but did you know they can also make donut cakes + donut walls for your parties? Order HERE and make every kids donut dreams come true! (credit: Mamas Donuts)

5. GIANT COOKIE

I've yet to meet a kiddo that doesn't love a cookie. Imagine their reaction when they're surprised with a GIANT cookie to share! Delivering around the country, Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar Giant Cookies can be ordered HERE. They also have cookie cakes + party cookie pies if you are catering for a larger crowd (credit: Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar)

6. ICE CREAM CAKE

An ice cream cake is always a crowd pleaser and conveniently available at most supermarkets if you're in a pinch. But if you're looking for something a little more special (and better tasting!) Duck Island have you covered. Available for pick up at anytime in all Duck Island stores, however if you’re more of the organised type, you can order online ahead of time HERE to ensure you don’t miss out (credit: Duck Island Ice Cream)

7. DECORATE A CUPCAKE STATION

Ok, so this technically goes against the whole no cake cake thing - but who doesn't love decorating their own cupcake? Plus it counts as a game! Provide a variety of toppings and everyone can customise their cupcake with their preferred flavours (photo credit: The House of Hood)

8. ICE CREAM SAMMIES

I mean shoot, these look pretty darn yum to me too! Ice Cream Sandwiches would be so easy to make + freeze ahead of time. Pssst Duck Island also make these if you want one less thing to do or find the recipe HERE (credit: Kleinworth & Co)
