Our Top Kid-friendly Cafe's in Hamilton and Surrounding Area [Updated]

Hi everyone! Lisa here <3

I’m so excited to be writing my very first blog post (very long overdue) as new owner of Little Mash! It still feels a little surreal to say that, but I couldn’t be happier to be here.

If you know me, you’ll know two things about me: I’m a mum and I really love coffee. When you’re juggling kids and caffeine cravings, finding cafés that genuinely welcome little ones is essential! There’s nothing better than being able to enjoy a good coffee while the kids are happy too.

We’ve shared a post like this before, but I’ve updated it with our current favourites with the help of our Instagram community to find some I didn't know about! I've been to each one (with the kids in tow) to try them out so I can bring you the info you need to know!!

I hope this list helps you discover a new favourite too.

1. Lykke

I’ve had the absolute privilege of watching Lykke grow and take shape over the past few years, and it’s been so special to see it become what it is today. The space they’ve created is just beautiful. It's warm, welcoming, and somewhere I always go back to.

One of their recent additions is the little fenced play area for the minis. It means the little ones can play safely while you enjoy a beverage or a treat!

There’s also a lovely little retail space attached to the café, filled with great goodies. They even stock some cool second-hand men’s pieces, so it’s not just a mum stop, definitely bring Dad along for this one too!

2. The Bikery Cafe, Cambridge

The Bikery is tucked away beside the Velodrome just on the outskirts of Cambridge, and it’s such a fun little outing spot.

We love heading here because it’s more than just a café stop. There’s an awesome scooter and bike track that the kids can zoom around on, plus a small playground to keep them busy. Save this one for a sunny day!

You can grab a takeaway or sit down and enjoy a well-deserved refreshment after a bike ride. They’ve got a small selection of toys inside, which is always a bonus!

3. Punnet, Tamahere

Punnet has been such a staple for us. The playground alone is enough to keep the kids happy for ages. It’s one of those places where you can actually sit down for a minute (most of the time haha) while they’re fully entertained.

And of course, we can’t leave without a little treat. We’re definitely partial to the cake pops and cupcakes from the cabinet!

4. The Village Cafe, Whatawhata

Set in the scenic little village of Whatawhata, on the way out to Raglan, this café is such a lovely spot to stop in.

There’s a great outdoor area for the kids, complete with a tractor, a race car and a few other fun bits to climb and play on. It’s relaxed, spacious, and perfect for letting them burn off some energy while you enjoy a coffee.

There are often farm animals roaming in the nearby fields, and the kids can feed them too, which is always a highlight.

This one is definitely best enjoyed when the sun is shining, so pop it on your list for a sunny day!

5. Chapter One, Rototuna

Inside the beautiful Te Kete Aronui, Rototuna Library, this sweet little café is such a gem for a slow morning out with the kids 🤍

They serve great coffee and we absolutely love, love the lolly cake - it’s become a bit of a tradition for us. There’s just something so nice about grabbing a coffee, picking out a few library books, and settling in for a cosy outing. The playgroung right outside is also a bonus!

6. Callum Brae

Another spot that we have frequented over the years is Callum Brae. There is the large playground but also a separate little area within the cafe grounds that the littles can enjoy too! If you love mini-golf, this is also a great whole-family spot.
